It is called Borgo Antico. Its bellied bottle is embellished with a beautiful modern label. It is a Valpolicella Superiore DOC from the Monte Cillario winery in Verona. A medium-small winery in the area that has always been committed to the promotion of good local vines and the Valpolicella wine tradition. This Borgo Antico, in particular, is made from grapes selected by hand in the vineyard. 55% of the blend is Corvina, with 20% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella and 10% Croatina grapes. As is well known, the Superiore indication on the label also refers to a slightly higher alcohol content than the basic version. In this case, it is a 13.5 degree red, obviously characterised by an excellent aromatic profile. In the glass it has a beautiful intense red colour, with still clear violet reflections. The nose is fruity, with hints of cherries in spirit and a delicate note of toast. In the mouth, however, it is full and balanced. Enveloping, with round, soft tannins and a typical morello cherry aftertaste. It is an easy wine to match. At table, in fact, it tastefully accompanies rich first courses, as well as main courses of meat and game. Finally, for those with a sweet tooth, this Veronese DOC red wine is also perfect with medium-aged cheeses.
