The timber is kiln dried before pressure treatment which enables greater penetration of the preserving chemical. The combination of kiln drying and the use of slow grown, naturally disease resistant timber, will give this timber the long service life required for ground contact timber. The pressure treatment used conforms to the efficacy requirements of BS EN 599-1, is treated in accordance with the penetration and retention guidance given in BS EN 351-1 to give a desired service life in the selected Use Class, defined in BS EN 335-1. The UK national interpretative document of these standards is BS 8417 2011+A1:2014 Preservation of Wood Code of Practice.-Available in 1500mm, 1650mm, 1800mm 2100mm & 2400mm lengths in 75 x 75mm profiles.-We remind customers that wood is a natural living material and this means it is affected by atmospheric and ground conditions, due to the fact that it is not evenly porous, it may dry at an uneven rate. This can create pressure inside the wood potentially causing it to split, warp or twist when its exposed to the atmosphere and sunlight. Pressure treated wood will contract as the water used in the process evaporates from the timber. Natural weathering should not weaken or decrease the life expectancy of the wood. Using dark stain or other coatings will increase U.V. absorption and speed up the drying process. Using sealant or oils will help hold moisture in and lets the timber dry at a slower rate.
